Easy now Shemsters,
You and me got alot of ground work to catch up on,
But I’m gonna leave the history homework to anyone who wants to go and do that and get straight into the present tense…
Right now I’m just back from an amazing gig in Czech - my 1st and hopefully the 1st of many - manifesting my vision on a new level, juggling a few balls at once -
1st up I’m running Psychosemitic - events and education from hiphop shows and story-telling evenings to film nights and poetry slams. See Psychsemitic.com for the whole megillah.
What else? I’m working on some brand new tracks which will be up on the MySpace.com/anomalymc real soon, and a new Jewish-Muslim collaboration with one the UK’s top underground emcees, Mohammed Yahya.
Mohammed is what we Brits call a diamond geezer - a true Tsaddik - a righteous and beautiful soul who is a blessing to work with.
As well as writing and recording and performing with him, I also have the pleasure of planning and running workshops with him that we take into schools and youth clubs/groups/camps, using rap/poetry as a creative tool to help young people deal with issues from faith and identity to substance misuse and body image.
Check his flows at myspace.com/mohammedyahya - too deep to sleep on.
Also - check for his wife Sukhina and her amiga Muneera who form the tightest and most devout female duo in the UK - the rhymes are unbelievably real! www.myspace.com/poeticpilgrimage
Alrighty, that’s it from me for now, just a little intro to what I’m up to,
I’ll be back…
Shabbat Shalom

What’s up Shemspeed friends,
Yuri Lane here saying what up! I’m back from alot of touring in the U.S. and beyond. I had stops in Baltimore, N.Y. and Davos, Switzerland. I’ve been performing some new work that includes live looping with the beatbox. I’m digging it, but EQing this Boss looper can be troublesome. My partner Sharif has been adding live video mixing to our show and folks are feeling it.
I’m excited to get back in the studio!
My next record is all about collaborating with MC.s, poets, musicians and producers. I think the beatbox goes well with many different instruments.
I’m bringing the beatbox harmonica to a new level y’all. It’s time for some new songs, so check youtube for some new hot vids. I’ve been enjoying life with our daughter. Delilah Rose Lane is making crazy sounds at 5 months!
She speaks my language. (gaaaa ggooo booom boom click spit spit ahhhhhh!)
Enough about me y’all. Have you picked up Y-love’s album? I’m feeling it big time. Go and get This is Babylon now! I’m bumping it on my Itouch right now! I’ve been playing Eryka Badu’s album alot. I think she made a sweet album. Her thoughts and feelings come out big time. Pick it up.
Barak Obama is close y’all to the nomination. I’m excited about the election
and I hope its a fair one!
Peace and Beatbox,
yl

1. sleep–recently signed to strange famous and killing the west coast after many successful indie selling albums, this dude got the skills to pay bills. Literally he has been living off music an dalbum sales and raising the kids. Mad support for an emcee who does that. Besides that, portland is on fire right now with emcees like him and new cats like illmaculate. I’m checking for him. Im also checking for his group project with Josh Martinez. “The Chicharones.”
2. grieves- this cat grinds like no other and is totally picking up the slack past any new comer out of seattle. Not as big as greyskul or blue scholars but he doing his damn thing and is on the road with mac lethal. He knows his market and is attacking it! At his mid twenties I think cats need ot make way. He’s prolly the next artist rhymesayers should push.True story. I’m checking for him.
3.yak ballz- an incredible album on a indpenedent lable like flospot is a good looks. He managed to be the only perosn who made his way on to Paid Dues who actually paid dues. Yeah dont get it twisted. Most of those kid must have got hand outs, or were on established labels. He is not on Def Jux. He is single handedly making his way into Source mag’s Off The Radar mag along with many other publications. I’m checking for him.
4.sav killz- J Ronin put this due ina ross genre market and has blasted off to incredible levels of street credit. Hes managed to rock out overseas and in the USA. Hes goten press in all kinds of overseas mags and been featured on tracks with Sick jacken, Guilty Simpson,Killah Priest and more. Thats more than reason to check for him. Plus he’s from Bedstuy. You” definitely watch out when you’ll see him.
Im checking for him.
5. blue scholars- Production is key and and an emcee duo to go along can save the day.
NO description in words can describe the hip hop from seattle that’s hella filthy according to tour posters, but I think the fact that they sell out five nights in a row in thier home city can mean a little something. They just toured with hieroglyphics and will probably continue to smash the entire circuit. They contiue to play large venues and find thier way on to bills with cross genre acts lke Matisyahu.
termanology
6.Musab-formerly known as beyond, you can catch his first album back in 1996 with producton by ANT. This was back when it was Rhymesayers EnterPAINment. He is one of the founders of that formerly itty-butty label. Now this guy has landed on Hiero-Imperium and has a record out. he’s also been on tour with the entire hiero click (sans Del). lets hope he comes back out hard on the SOUND SET 08 festival in mInneapolis May 25th. Cehck for the song BANG. One of th eonly street emcees from Minneapolis. Im checking for him.
7. C rayz walz + kosha dillz
August 26th will signify the birth of three things. C Rayz’ son’s b day, Kosha dillz’ b day, and the birth of Freestyle Vs Written.
After smashin SXSW and recieving magnificent reviews from CMJ, this African-jewish experience teste the wit of freestyle vs written verse. Recorded in less than 24 hours, and produced by a 20 year odl skate boarder from t”he middle of no where” Virginia, you might consider this to be an convincing album hearing songs like “I love Jews” and “Ariel Sharon.” Besides that, C Rayz has most likley been your best friend and one point or another in your undergroudn hip hop life.
8.Percee P- hand at had since the hand was invented, he is someone who understands the reason why people like music. He understands how the game works. He understands that you must always have merch on you. he is true hip hop and will adapt to any scene. After leaving stone cold NYC to the lovely west coast, he landed a deal with Stone Throw that re-ignited his career to a full-fledged touring schedule.
You can catch this legend rhyming on you tube with Eminem or on the Scotland roads with peanut butter wolf. You can catch him outside a show slinging cd’s ot hungry supporters of real hip hop. You can also catch him in the front row supporting your set and giving you advice on the game after you step off stage. That’s the best thing about Percee. He no different that any of us.
Im checking for him.
9.Icon the Mic King
Basically a cocky dude from Philly does the world a favor by grinding every day to get to your city. He understands how it works. Do you know what “it” is?
“It” is how to make money and a living off a dying industry where there is a 99% failure rate. He does not stop. There is always something cooking. He understands how to stick and move because he has no choice but to do that. He understands that to become known you ust continuously tour and the best form of sales is face to face.
With 10,000 albums sold from mostly hand to hand (not emo high fives) he is like the younger version of a trash talking Percee P, with punch lines for days.
A true soldier who would rather live on the road than in his humble abode, he has the difference between “touring to live” and “living to tour.” I don’t know what that means really…but…I’m checking for him.
10. termanology
This dude got the most fire out. Just like well…no one..he has good management and with that he has landed insome fresh publications. His hit with DJ PREMIER has etched his name in stone as history on vinyl and got on tour with Q Tip and Common. I hoep he becomes the next Big Pun in smaller healthier form. Atleast that way when he does I can say that I knew him and got on the radio with him and Priest in LA. He signed to nature sounds which compeltely disappoints me (good move on nature though) but regardles or not I wil be checking for him because he got skills.
****TORAE****
sepcial mention for this guy as someone to check for on the east coast, he plays every major show in NYC and I caught hi in ATL at the A3C. Iwant to say he gets the special overseas mention tour becuase hes gettin his EURO DOLLAR on and what not so my apologies that I forgot about him. When you meet a cool ass dude who has beats from Premier it makes you think that damn…
I dont even care about how good of a rapper you are.
Jus because Torae is a cool fella means that people will check for him. Remember emcees, “the grind” is not to be misinterpreted by “The piss me off” hustle and the “put me on” hustle. I
***POISON PEN***
I check for him becuase he reminds me of hard work and dedication. He has been holding down stronghold in NYC for years and came up with Technique since day 1.
So no fellas….,
he is not getting on those tours for no reason. Would you mind being 2nd in line for those huge tours? I wouldn’t.
Besides that, he can prove to teach yu a thing about reating an entity. The self proclaimed “Bedstuy Best Buy” has been a favorite shirt of mine since the day i got it. How many other emcees spit gangsta stuff, are nice guys, and also start a mashpit to 90 bpm beats? Im checking for him.

Blog? Why do you always want some blog? Do you really think people are that interested in the musings, mind, or word manipulations of Jake Break? Granted, yesterday was crazy in Caracas, sipping fruity drinks, and the sun was blazing as we dipped in the ocean with the various bikini clad modelas. But things are pretty much business as usual you know? I mean, besides the car accident i was involved in. BTW, It wasn’t my fault. Some lady reversed into me at a stop light with her GIGANDO SUV and played the accordion with my hood. And copping that broken mini moog from the synth repair shop wasn’t so special, but I mean after i repair it, its gonna blaze. Oh, and by the way my gear is all messed up from electrical explosions throughout the room. Apparently the grounding is messed up. So my Pro One got blazed as did my audio outs for the MPC 2000xl and my TL Audio Tube Pre got fried ass well. Oh, my friend has some weird joint disease. And not the same joint disease my roommates have mind you, where their symptoms are only memory lapse, laughing and hunger. This is serious. Plus a lot of my friends seem to have some serious issues with their teeth. I think its time to bring back Max B’s dad’s motto for 2001. Take care of you teeth.

Well I’m about to jump on a plane to Israel after 3 awesome nights of touring alongside my favourite band Me First And The Gimme Gimmes. The shows went nuts, the Gimmes guys were really nice and the partying was, well… hehehe. So I made a crazy deal with my girlfriend to get to her best friend’s wedding in Israel on time. I was originally meant to go with her on January 15 but then we got the Gimmes shows and I couldn’t turn them down. So I managed to fineigle my ticket so I would play the last show, jump on a plane on Monday, get to London at 6.20am on Tuesday, hop a plane to Israel at 8.30am and get to Ben Gurion at 3.30pm. And rush to Jerusalem for a 5.30pm chuppah. Let’s hope none of the connections are late!!!! I imagine at the wedding I’ll be a dancing zombie… which for anyone who has seen me dance before is rather indistinguishable from normal.
Meanwhile in Yidcore news, we had a great end to 2007 with our latest album “They tried To Kill Us. They Failed. Let’s Eat!” voted number 31 on the best albums of the year countdown on Australia’s biggest national punk radio show Short Fast Loud. For an album released back in April we were extremely pleasantly surprised. Also we just posted a new video to our song “Happy New Year Atom” which you can watch either on Youtube or Myspace (whichever tickles your pickle more). It was selected as a Myspace TV feature which was pretty cool. So with a great 2007, the Gimmes tour and a planned Israel tour in 2008, life is a well packed falafel pita right now!

the stress it too great. I think all day about every town im gogin and how every promoter will most likely try sheisting me etc..will I have to fight them??..! yes i will!! (great idea I must say..over 50 bucks)
oy va voi…nah i dunno..hah I mean heck here i am wrapping tefilln, and im thinking about how dare this promoter try and tell me waht he told me last night! How selfish is that to G-d? Hes proabbaly sitting there saying…
“KOsha dillz you fool, how dare you think about this horrible promoter? Quit thinking about rapping and start wrapping!”
Oy va voi…unfortunately as artists we get so immersed in our work because our work is our life. The catch is that in realuity we lose every essence of what actually is. Sometimes , we run to our work becuase its easier to bury our real life issue in our work although we all know that wears off its back to our real life things we must deal with…family issues, relationships issues, and other problems liek not waking up on time, etc!
I can’t believe i am so selfish sometimes to think that I actually am KOSHA DILLZ when i wake up in the morning. In reality I am not.
the moral of the story is, I am a human being who makes a living as an artist. The artist in me personifes KOSHA DILLZ which reflects “Rami” but I sure do hope to see that i stay true to myself. The rapping part is easy and what not.
Real life like bills, relationships outside of music, and every day life is the hard part.
thats why my album will be called “RAMI RULES” becuase deep down inside , i knwo i win and I know I rule!
RAMI RULES LP coming soon yeah!!
followed the “thumb wrestling state yeshiva champion’—(just though of that one–great jewish cd right there)
but anyways…catch me and Roebus One on tour !!!

What’s up y’all from freezing Chicago. I’m a proud Father of a gorgeous little girl. Her name is Delilah Rose Lane. 6lbs 1ounce. Now she’s up to 7! Her Hebrew name is Daila. I’m working on a beatbox parrot track and I’m realizing I share many similarities with this bird. I’m off to Davos, Switzerland in late Jan. to bust the beatbox harmonica! I will be spreadin da the Shemspeed in the Alps. I’m getting no sleep with the baby and all, but I’ve been coming up
with some nice beatbox songs for the coming year. I will post a new dance track on my site real soon, so look for it and please give me input on the song, as I will develop it with the listeners comments. yuriilane.com

yea, we doin it hip hop style chareidi in Pari then to London. On the way here though I lost my Ipod. it was big and 80GB filled! But right before that John Zorn approached my car window and I laced him with the Y-Love promo. so that was cool. oddest thing, our promoter in Paris just happens to be 50 units away from my wife’s friends, which is where we are staying. not oddest thing, Paris is freeing in the winter. annoying thing, since we are Jewish we didn;t get press here, or so our promoters tell us. till next time!
